Highlights of the opening seminar from MediaCom Story Highly consumerist societies correlated very well with The Walking Dead – this was among observations made by Jon Gittings, global business development strategy officer, MediaCom, as the first conference at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2015 kicked off on 21 June.

The session titled ‘How to survive a zombie attack (and harness cultural trends to grow brands)’ witnessed Josh Sapan, president, chief executive officer, AMC Networks Inc.; David Alpert, executive producer, The Walking Dead; and actor from the show Norman Reedus reflecting on different aspects of the show, ranging from what makes it successful, obsessive fan involvement and what the learnings are for brands. Twitter VP on data: ‘We believe we’ll make the world a better place.’

moody_twitterIn December, General Motors used insight from Twitter data to tweak its latest Chevy Silverado because consumers in the US were complaining about the cars’ overheated steering wheels.

That’s an example Chris Moody of Twitter, shared with Campaign Asia-Pacific following his keynote at Cannes about the social-platform’s data strategy. One expects Silicon Valley types to be enamored with data, but Moody sounds positively evangelical: “We believe our data has unlimited value and our job is to fuel as much…innovation as possible. We believe we’ll make the world a better place by helping businesses operate more efficiently and helping save lives.”
